Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Interviewing

  • Interviewing is an essential means of gaining perspective on a client's problems.
  • Consultants often spend time with all levels of the client (from front line personnel to middle managers and the CEO) to clarify issues and understand processes -- in short, to understand how the organization and the industry operate.
  • Competitor and consumer interviews also provide important findings and insights.

Data Structuring/Analysis

  • Once research has been conducted, the data needs to be structured, analyzed, and interpreted.
  • Types of analyses needed vary from project to project; however, all analyses, both qualitative and quantitative, must be structured logically, developed comprehensively, and presented clearly.

Client/Project Management

  • Project leadership is expected. Consultants lead as primary client contact, providing progress updates and managing expectations against deliverables.

Data Gathering

  • The research analyst tracks and gathers data relevant to an engagement, through primary and secondary research.
  • Sources often include client-generated reports and third party experts, such as trade publications and government agencies.
  • Research is conducted through online searches, as well as one-on-one interviews. Often the required data is difficult to find; creativity, resourcefulness, and persistence are critical.

Data Analysis

  • Types of analyses required vary from project to project, but include may customer segment comparisons, identification of common themes from focus groups, competitive profiles, and market sizing and growth analyses.
  • Research analysts often have to interpret and evaluate raw data, and process them into readily usable formats for consultants.
  • This task normally entails the formulation of meaningful exhibits and the proper documentation of sources of data and information.

Client Interaction

  • Being an integral member of the Kannon team, a research analyst may need to interact with some or all client team members in a professional, helpful, friendly and responsive manner.
